OUR FLAGSHIP PROJECT  - UNDER COMMUNITY SERVICES

                                            MASS MARRIAGES

 An Indian marriage, if performed in strictly traditional manner, is an expensive affair, which a person with meager recourses at hand is not able to meet. This is more so in case of the bride’s family, as there is a heavy demand from the groom’s family by way of DOWERY.

 In many cases, the parents of the bride are forced to sell off their assets, which may be their only means of livelihood, or are forced to borrow, in order to meet these heavy expenses, which in turn deprives them of their income generating capacity or turns into debt trap, as they have to spend a lions share of their income in paying off the borrowed money, leaving very little with them to subside upon, thereby resulting in them remaining below poverty line and thus vulnerable to exploitation by unscrupulous elements.

 In order to remedy this situation the concept of Mass Marriage was started and we in Rotary solemnize this marriage under one roof, and the newly wed are provided with such household amenities as required to start a married life. Also as per our tradition lunch is provided free to all invitees. All this results in an approx. expenses of 2 hundred thousand to 3 hundred thousand Indian Rupees, which is met thru donations from social minded people, organization, and self contributions

 SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROJECT

1)      Total eradication of DOWREY system resulting in minimum burden on the families involved.

2)      Social / medical counseling of having small families resulting in population control.

3)      Saving of national wealth, due to elimination of unwanted expenditure

4)      Enhancement of Rotary’s image due to people having faith in Rotary Clubs. Etc.

 Here we have pleasure in informing everybody that this is one of our on going projects.  

 MATCHING GRANTS WILL BE APPRECIATED
